ROATAN, HONDURAS I have heard much of this pearl in the Caribbean Sea, its beautiful beaches washed by calm, clear waters, magnificent hotels and tourist attractions. I know the saying goes that a picture is worth a thousand words, and I am amazed more than ever that it turned out to be the case here. From Roatan Airport (which by the way, is international and receives direct flights from Europe and North America) we went to our hotel by a road adjacent to the sea, surrounded by private houses, built very close and sometimes over the water. The smell of the sea came in with the breeze through the windows of our car and made me wish that our hotel was farther away. |

Anthony's Key, Roatan This week America Mia wants to invite you on a tour of the smallest of the Bay Islands of Honduras. In previous editions we highlighted the beautiful island of Roatan, the largest of the Bay Islands. Let's begin this journey through the beautiful tropical island of Utila, located in the Caribbean Sea 18 miles from Puerto de La Ceiba. Utila Island is only 11 km long and 4 km wide and is surrounded by large numbers of proliferating reef and marine life. |

Copan Ruins, Honduras Copan Ruins, Honduras Ask anyone who has visited Mexico what the most famous and impressive Mayan location is, and they will say “Chichen Itza”. Ask anyone who has visited both Chichen Itza and the Copan Ruin in Honduras, and it’s likely the answer will be The Ruins at Copan. To know why, you simply must visit the place. We arrived at the ancient city early in the morning, and it was a spectacular sight – sunshine streaming everywhere, especially through the ancient forests, made us thinks that the name “Ruins” are perhaps unfair. It should rightfully be called “Rejuvenated City”, “Trip to the Past”, or something in that vein. The first thing to catch the eye is the sovereignty of nature in this place – a wide variety of trees, birds, and animals can be seen or heard. You can’t turn in any direction without feeling it. |

Pico Bonito The charm of the city of Copán is of course associated with its powerful past. Located about 2,000 feet above sea level, Copan is surrounded by many Mayan archaeological sites, forests with a rich variety of birds, rivers, hot springs and traditional Indian villages. The climate is ideal for most of the year. The region rarely has tropical temperatures such as the northern coasts of Honduras, and the winters are much milder than those experienced in the high city of Antigua Guatemala. |

Punta Sal When we left for Cayo Cochinosl, we did not know what we were going to find, but we soon discovered that what they told us was true: that a discerning tourist has much to find there, including a wide range of attractions: there the traveler can find not only very fine sand beaches, sun, breezes and a calm turquoise sea, but also islands of rock formations, lagoons, rivers, coral reefs, virgin forests and abundant wildlife. Cayo Cochinos can be reached in different ways. One of them is boarding a boat in the town of Tela and enjoying a journey of 45 minutes, from which you can see some dolphins swimming alongside the boat, diving under the boat and then reappearing in a friendly and exciting dance, to which everyone seems accustomed. Once in Cayo Cochinosl |
