Granada City, Nicaragua Granada is one of Nicaragua’s most important cities. It is historically second-to-none, and is an important tourist destination; it’s popularly known as “the Grand Sultan”, after its namesake volcano. Corn Island 1, Nicaragua Corn Island Corn Island, Nicaraguan Paradise and Hidden Tourist Destination If you happen to be fortunate (or just plain rich) enough to believe that Caribbean vacations merit exorbitant prices such as $50 breakfasts, $450 seaside hotel rooms, $250 romantic dinners-for-two, and fishing expeditions for $350/hour, then we strongly recommend you steer yourself to the many islands in the region which begin with “Saint” – too many to list here. |

Leon, Nicaragua The city of León, located in the northwestern Pacific area of Nicaragua, was founded in 1524 by Spanish conqueror Francisco Hernandez de Cordoba. From 1610 on, it was buried by the Momotombo volcano's destructive activity and therefore, moved by its frightened inhabitants to where it is today. The first city of León, known as Old Leon, remained uninhabited until 1960 when a scientific excavation found the remains, and in 2000 the area was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. This historic site now operates as an open-air museum. |
